A rough start that turned out good (PB cab)

Woke up early to hit the good conditions with my favorite dive buddy (myself  ) before they went bad again.

Loaded up all my dive gear, kayak, and surfboard. Go to pull out and I have a flat. Had to wait for someone with a compressor to come help. Went down to try and get it fixed and they were booked up for way too long. 3 cans of fix a flat (one of which blew up in my face) and a prayer later I made it to the coast, although several hours late.

Headed out in the kayak and found a solid 15' vis. Swell was rougher than I hoped for where I wanted to go. Vis deteriorated to less than 10' by the end.


Found a small cab way in a hole, my first 10" ab of the year, and a couple scallops. I did a drop and came face to face with the biggest cab i've ever seen. Went back up, breathed up, came back down and shot him perfectly dead center between the eyes. Measured to 24 3/4" and 14 pounds.


Went back home and unloaded the kayak and fish while I waited for Fej to get off work. Met back up and went out for a shore dive. Swell picked up and I forgot my GoPro. Shot a nice 32"+ ling. Fej shot a ling and a nice grassy but somehow it got away back on land haha... Fej took my damaged surfboard to help out the helpless and fix the holes I put in it like a dummy. Not a bad day despite a late start.

Glad to see you are taking advantage of the windows and getting some dives in. Congrats on the PB Cab, what a hog. Keep the vids coming, help keep me sane during my dry spell.

noticed the bull kelp is finally starting to recover. about 3 weeks ago up near albion, I only saw one stalk that reached the surface, everything else was shredded stumps- been a helluva rough winter!
