Acfording to a statement online, Sports Chalet is closing all stores. All online sales have already stopped and stores will remain open for another few weeks to clear inventory. May be a good time to take advantage of some deals ?

The company's statement can be read here ... http://www.sportchalet.com/

10% only discount. Lame. May be wait.
Their regular 20% coupon is better.

When a store is liquidating the deals are almost always better before they start the liquidation......

They have 2 other store chains in other parts of the country.  They can warehouse and sell online on their other store sites or move the inventory to their stores elsewhere, so deep deep discounts are unlikely.

There's one in Elk Grove. I usually only shopped there when I had a gift card. And it was the only place in EG for SCUBA and other diving equipment.

I'm mostly sorry to see the loss of jobs.

While this may be true, presuming the other stores are already well stocked they may just clearance stuff to free up capital.

Moving inventory to another location is extremely costly and a process riddled with shrink and product damage.  Considering the high mark-up this retailer is used to; there's plenty of room for reductions.  I would bet you will see a tiered series of reductions, increasing over time until a "close-out" company comes in and makes an offer to buy everything.  They have never really had a great fishing selection in Pleasanton and the prices were very high, especially considering the fact that there's a Walmart in the same parking lot.   Most of their inventory is name brand soft goods that are priced at full retail.  40-50% off in a few weeks won't be a surprise.

I stopped by the store in Elk Grove this morning. As mention before, everything is 10% off. I bought nothing, but the place was busy with other shoppers. Some of the fishing supplies are going fast.

10 percent discount + 9 percent sales tax = basically a wash. By the time time the discount is increased to 25 percent or higher, usually hardly anything worthwhile remaining.

Yep, I'll go back when the discounts are deeper. Might find a goody or two in the slow moving inventory.

I live near the one in Elk Grove and go there once in a while, but rarely buy anything due to the high prices.  I'm gonna go see if they have any wetsuits on the cheap.
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.
