Jim is asking if anyone has any experience with making the Hobie tank any more efficient. He has had problems with freshly caught anchovies not living too long. Maybe its just the fish are not too tuff??

Chovies tend to be really weak. Here are a few reason why they die. 1) The water circulation is too strong and stresses them out. Healthy bait fish will swim in a circle. 2) The bait is weak. Anchovies with red noses (Like Rudolph) already have 1 foot in the grave. It would be best to get new bait 3). The bait tank is over filled and there is not oxygen to go around. Take out the dead and weak chovies to free up space until the bait swims in a circle.  I hope this helps. Take it from a chovie.

Anchovies are just hard to keep alive. A round bait tank works best, as it lets the choves swim circles around the tank without bumping their noses each time they hit a corner.

Add an aerator or two and your anchovies will live a lot longer.  They are tough to keep alive but I've seen people on piers keeps a lot of them alive all day with regular water changes, and aerators.
