Since Noah AKA Silent Hunter got his first ab last year. The goal this year is to get him his first speared fish.

Rigged up an old kick board that we had lying around onto a pool brush pole and drew a fish on it. Went over some diving, stalking, loading techniques then let him blast the styrofoam fish underwater.  :smt067

He was off the mark the first couple times but then he got the hang of it.

We had lots of fun  :smt007

Awesome.

I wish that the local community pool would allow that...

He will be teaching you in no time.

I was trying to figure out what type of fish you were training with.  Either a rubber lip or the incredible Mr Limpet with those lips.

Great stuff! And in a pinch, can't go wrong with a pole spear. Fast reload, pretty intuitive!

Thanks guys...my secret to success so far with him is to not rush anything and being patient.

Awesome.

:smt044 yes having the pool is definitely advantageous when it comes to the training.

I think using a speargun is a lot easier than a pole spear especially when free diving. It's just a matter of pointing and shooting. With a pole spear you have to load it and keep it under tension.

While scuba diving a pole spear is definitely a quicker reload...just my opinion.

Approx 35 feet but not sure I'd be comfortable with you or anyone else shooting in my pool. Nothing personal :smt001
