Same thing at our house couple years ago.   Read about some crazy thing you do to get a leech field going again by blowing lots and lots of oxy clean or something similar.  Not sure if it worked, because we finally got the land lord to replace it.  Affordable Septic did a good job.  http://www.aero-stream.com/sodium-percarbonate-septic-systems-truth/

Sure you aint wanna plop down dat cheddar, and just go fishing instead?

You make a strong case, Sheik. But, with luck, there will be no geysers...

But, they want $1750 to do the work, which seems excessive. Not that I really want to, but I think I could dig it out myself in an afternoon, and $1750 will buy a lot of kayak fishing gear...

I'd pay 5X the amount not to have to do that work myself, especially at this time of year.  You do it yourself and get injured, sick, or laid up - then wut?  B counting your $1750 savings while recuping at home with a sprained back, or barfing and crapping your guts into a sparkly clean and secure septic tank. Instead of OTW.

Haggle the guy down 12% for all-in services, agree that's a good, discounted price, then gear up for RCG and prepare to bone down.  $1750 amortized across a decade is like 3 cents a day or some similar Sally Struthers-type number.

U just be makin' str8 up cents!

Dug this much out myself, and it's not looking good. I can't find anything that the outflow can connect to. Did find a few shards of curved terracotta. This afternoon my older kid will dig some more---I'm hoping we find something intact...

I think you need to lift the tank lid to see the outflow pipe and make sure it is in function mode. Outflow pipe should be next to inside wall of tank.

When I first saw this title I was afraid this was another one of those "poo pipe" dive reports...

Good luck with this. These things can get expensive in a hurry.

My system now has "Cleanouts/ inspections" added to both the inlet and outlet sides of the tank.
