I have an Outback currently and planning to pick up a Revolution. Which one would be a better choice over all regarding speed, stability and maneuverability over all? I have not tired riding a revo yet.

You can demo both the same day at your local dealer and decide for yourself.

None to demo in Sacramento area but there are dealers here.

Stability is a non-issue unless you're going to be standing while fishing.  Seat time will cure conceens about stability.  If you're keeping the Outback, then add the 16 to your fleet.  It's a great big water kayak.

If you're getting rid of the Outback then get the 13.  Revo13 has more speed than the Outback and is sized right to fish both freshwater and salt.

eelkram: I do not stand while fishing. What I do like from the Outback is that I can get in and out of it with not problem at all. How would the Revo16 perform when I need to get out of hairy weather like high winds and white caps? I had done that before in my Outback and it performed fine except I was moving at a slower speed.

Revo16 is narrower and heavier. I don't really see a lot of advantage of the 16 unless you're pedaling a lot and want to go fast or plan to put a sail.

Personally I'll take the R13, oh wait, I got one. 😉

Too bad you should have asked me to test drive R13 last Saturday.

I love my 13! You should have taken it for a spin in Tahoe. It's just the right size. Not too big and not too small. I've had it in some terrible conditions (as in why am I out here this is a bad idea) and it does great. I've used it for everything from river steelhead fishing to pulling crab pots.

Are you concerned about tipping over as you enter/exit the yak? Yes, the Outback is very forgiving and stable. The Revos are not as stable, but again, as with any kayak, the more time you have in the seat, the more comfortable you will be. That said, I believe the Revos have excellent stability.

I can't speak to the Revo13's handling as I never paddled one in rough conditions. I've had my AI (yak only) out in snotty conditions and I have every confidence in it as long as I'm headed into the wind. It's got the speed and hull shape to punch through the swells with no priblem. The only issue I have with it is in big trailing seas.  Something makes it a little squirrelly (maybe the rudder assembly?). Others have posted about how the Adventures aren't confidence inspiring when pedaling with swells.  The solution tends to be to pull up the rudder and pedals and paddle in. Of course, the 2012 and newer rudder assemblies require constant rudder adjustments, even while paddling... which sucks.

That being said, I still love it.

Like Fishingaddict suggestions . Go try both them out . Either at CCK at Jack London square or at Oakley kayak city . They're both right next to the water .. Or ask the people on this sight that has peddled both of them and they should be able to tell you how they handle on lakes or pelagic water ... In my two cents opinion I would go with Revo. 16 ..cause I use to own Revo 13 and that was my first Hobie .. Then a few months later I purchase the hobie adventure and that was the end of my revolution 13 .. Sold it .. Then the following year I bought the AI 2012 (single) then after a year I bought the AI tandem ..  Now all I have now is down to 3 hobies .. And keeping these for a while .. 2016 AI , 2015 Revo. And 2016 outback Limited edition .. Like I said my two cents opinion would be Revo. 16 .. I hoped that helps ...

I have both the Revo and the Adv.
Pick your poison.
I cannot decide which I like more. They both have their merits.
I'm thinking about selling one, but I have no idea which one.
Either way you can't go wrong.

Speed & all day ease of pedaling 16. Slightly better primary stability, not secondary, & turning radius 13.

If it's really nasty you'll want the 16. It's twitchier but it gets you in quicker with less effort.

That being said there are those who can shred on potato chip thin shortboards & never complain while the average kayak fisherman pedals an Outback & might not be happy in anything less stable. But for those that dare......

I have both, go with 13 if it is just for fishing, if you might add sail or want to paddle instead of pedal go with sixteen.

One other consideration is what water you are fishing, I like the 13 for rivers, 16 for lakes, quicker to get to the spot.

I have the Adventure (no Island, so equivalent to the Revo 16), and have never pedaled any other model.

Speaking of sailing... Last year, I got the sail and carried it with me fairly often. It's great fun when conditions are right---nothing better than a relaxing sail back to the launch after a day OTW. But, at least for me, there seems to be a fairly narrow window where conditions are such that it's really useful.
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?
