Never tried for stripers, but thinking about doing some surf fishing tomorrow morning (wednesday). Probably in Seaside or Marina. Two questions:

1) Are stripers even around right now?

2) Can i use a 2 oz. jig head w/5" hammer swim bait as a lure?

Thanks y'all <*((((><

Ok. Maybe i should head over to Outdoor World and grab some then. Also, seeing these "The Daiwa SP Minnow (Floating Version)" as a good choice to. Think they will be biting, or even present, this time of year?

Also, any recommendations on location?

fish the trenches by the hotel with what you have. SP minowns work well!  good luck and hope to see some eye candy/report.

Definitely on the bite. Careful with making sure to measure your fish out if you are keeping them. Fish and game is checking actively right now with so many fish that are being caught that are barely at keeper size. Hear they handed out a couple dozen tickets the other week.

Also, remember once you have your limit of stripers, you can no longer target them, even catch and release is a no no.  Lots of tickets being given out for that also.  But you can target perch after getting limits of stripers.

From 7am to 10am I caught nothing. Thankfully there were a handful of peeps out there that taught me things like how to cast properly (total beginner when it comes to surf-fishing).
Interestingly, I was walking down the beach towards my car around 10 to go buy a different lure, one similar to those others were using; decided to make 3 more casts and on the third, boom! Got my first striper (21" keeper).

Super fun. And no kayak gear to clean :-)
