Good afternoon all,
I'm anxious to get to know some new friends.  I've never joined a forum like this before, more of a face to face (bow to bow) kind of guy.
I live and work up in Davenport/Pescadero and am willing to give reports on conditions to whomever.
I still need a couple items before this years saltwater season starts, mainly some outerwear (pants, booties, jacket).  I would love some honest advice regarding clothing, willing to trade/barter for some and don't mind hand-me-downs at all.
Until nest time,
JohnnyAb

Welcome!

There are basically three options for outerwear:

1) Wetsuit (3mm or thicker) with or without some sort of windbreaker over it. Cheap and easy, but not that comfy on long or hot days.

2) Drysuit (or "paddling suit") with some insulating layers under it. Expensive but comfy.

3) Dry pants and dry top, again with some sort of insulation underneath. Expensive but comfy.

Me and many other folks on this site have the Kokatat Angler paddling suit. You can score one for about $500, and it'll last you many seasons.

Welcome, J-Ab.  :smt001

Summer of 1993 - I have fond memories of eating at the deli at the Davenport store before and/or after adventures diving for abs and fish at Franklin and Pigeon Points.  There was a very sweet young woman with short dark hair that worked there - great deviled eggs.  Once gifted her a fat San Mateo County abalone.

Johnny Abalone!!!

I have known and loved this guy for years.  John is a salty Santa Cruz skipper and is set up with an outstanding yak rig (haha, my old one). He grows abalone and used to run the kelp abalone food boat.  If you need a conditions report, he can look out his office window at Davenport Landing.

WELCOME!!  WE will get out there very soon together my man!!!

PS if you don't score togs, I can dig some up and "loan....."

PS (threadjack)  LB Steve--- jeans and a windbreaker work fine, until you are in the water, where they do not work at all except to help kill you quicker.  Hey, each to his own but when I see this publicly posted; then I have to publicly post: It is unsafe and not an example anyone should follow while kayak fishing on our ocean.  That being said, if you need help with clothes or wetsuits, I can probly contribute to your cause.  Just because.

Remember it's not just your health and welfare, but also any newbie or kook who might read "it's OK" since you do it and have survived.  Role model aspect.
