Does anyone know when ocean salmon season is supposed to open (or is it still TBD)?  I checked the Dept of Fish & Wildlife's website and it just says "April 2-30"

https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Fishing/Ocean/Regulations/Salmon

Thanks!

That is correct until they choose the season options at the April meeting.

Yup, it opens April 2 south of the KMZ (40d10mN, near Shelter Cove).

Expect in-season changes to come from the PFMC meetings in April.

That's pretty cool, getting a new dredge in May, but not operating it still next year sometime. WTF!

Sounds like SUPs and kayaks are ok still.

If you are launching a kayak, I suggest Moss Landing (WX conditions and skills permitting, of course). That area is likely to hold fish early in the season.

Keep in mind Moss Landing will be an absolute clusterf*ck on opening day, especially with SC harbor shut down.

And you need to be aware of the tides at Moss Landing. The current can flow really fast thru there.

Yes, but it could be hazardous even in a moderate surf---lots of breaking waves the last couple of times I stopped by to take a look. I'd hate to wipe out near all of those boulders...

I may opt to delay my opener until midweek for salmon. Unless the weather forecast is FAC. Even in my boat, I don't want to deal with the crazy traffic and opener fever.

Anyone know how big a boat Ed at capitola can launch?

Thanks for the responses everyone!  Was thinking of going out of HMB that weekend... any idea if there are salmon that early in the season around there?

Best launch at opener is generally Monterey.

Here is the very shallow harbor.
