"Scuba" Luis has talked me into wanting to go spear fishing, even though it's only SIX SHORT WEEKS UNTIL ROCKFISH OPENS AGAIN!!!!! I have spring break at the end of the month and my December lingcod supply is dwindling to say the least. Due to having bitch lungs, I plan on doing the scuba spear thing. Here's what I need:

-Tank
-Reg/Octopus
-Gloves
-Spear...?
-Dive Computer (if you have a good deal!)
-Confidence
-Dive Light

Anything else you may recommend would be cool. I already have wetsuit, mask, fins, booties, BCD, stringer and kayak.

I've been using this dive light recently and have been VERY impressed.  :smt007

Worth every penny no doubt, and the rechargeable battery will save you $$ in the long run.

Take a look around at the red triangle site for guns and gloves and more as well.

Jim

I'd chose a pole spear over a gun if it's your first time out. You can't get tangled up in a pole spear.

And the scuba fishing enhancement, I think it's only $2,950 this year?

Sounds about right....

I know right...stupid bright, and I love the smooth twist switch as well.  :smt007

I love my UK sl4 eLED L1s but dang this thing is way brighter and the switch is way smoother...when the UK thumb switch gets sticky it can be pretty rough on my glove right there...

Jim

Plus, it's pretty cool to get a fish with little more than a sharp stick!
Fish laugh when I paddle by.  Sometimes they laugh so hard they fall on my hook.

Don't forget about certification and training.

I got my PADI at Chico State in 2007 and I've been on about 200 dives, but thanks for lookin' out!

I do need to brush up on my hand signals and safety procedures. I've still got my PADI book.

I have a Riffe 00 speargun, recently refinished with new bands, snubber, spearhead, etc.  It was a beat-up beach find, but it's almost completely rebuilt. Asking $200 for it (about what I have in it, not including sweat equity). It's a very short gun, suitable for poking around rocks for lings and cabs, but it does really hammer them at short range. PM me if interested.

First he needs to shorten his handle to just plain Luis.  :smt044

I have a backup oct/reg and aluminum tank if you're interested?

Thanks, Dan. I'm going to see if I like it before I "pull the trigger" on a speargun. That is a very generous offer though! I might be PMing you in a couple of weeks.  :smt004

I'll be around. Might be in Anchor Bay, though... I haven't put it out there, and I'm waiting on the Free Dive Shop in West Sacto. for a spring and detent ball for the safety. The saftey works but doesn't "click" into place. I'm getting that fixed before selling it to anybody.
