It was one of the thick ones. They look like they're plated with some kind of alloy that doesn't rust (as much), and it almost looked like there had been a little bubble in the plating and then it popped as the material cooled and hardened.

I'm sure it was just a little QC hiccup. Haven't heard of anyone else having the problem, but might as well check first.

The guy at Bay Tackle took a look and agreed it needed to get sent back to Shakespeare. They swapped it out for a different one, no prob.

I've found burrs in the eyes of a fishing rod once before.  It wasn't an ugly stick nor was it made by shakespeare.  I now inspect the eyes closely every time I pick up a new rod.

I've got the ugly stik tiger medium in two piece and it's a champ. It'll hold 24 once lead   trolling for salmon no problem.
