I am looking for a jigging rod for Lake Trout and found the highly recommended Trevala TVC70ML, which would work for the Mackinaw, and for lighter salt-water applications.  But it is only made in 1-piece.   I prefer two-piece rods for easy storage.  Is a 1-piece rod asking for trouble on the water?

Also saw the Trevala TVC66M2.  It is two-piece, and looks like a good do it all rod for the salt-water, and probably do fine for the Mackinaw as well...

I saw a thread that basically said, get both.

So my real question is 1-piece or 2-piece?

The answer is easy of we are talking about ladies swimsuits.
Fish laugh when I paddle by.  Sometimes they laugh so hard they fall on my hook.

Never had an issue with the one piece rods.
BTW I use my ML for everything  from rockfish to Salmon, halibut, sturgeon even an albie on the slide...basically everything here in norcal except a wsb.

I've caught a WSB on the ML.  :smt044 :smt044
but yes, the ML is basically good for all species in NorCal. Good Rod. I've never had problems with them.

I don't have any rod advice - looks like you got good advice from two of NCKA's finest here.

I did want to thank you for having a clear post title though.  :smt001

All my rods are one piece, with the longest being 8' so there should be no issue.only thing would be personal preference
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

It looks like your question is between a one piece seven foot rod and a two-piece 6'6" rod with the same action. The length matters.I say the seven footer.  If I am mistaken and they are in fact the same length  get the one piece, they fish better.

I vote for 1 piece unless space is big key factor for you.  I personally like the feel of a 1 piece over a 2 piece.  I guess it really comes down to what works for your given situation, but if space is not a issue, go for the 1 piece.

I think the 2 piece separates right above the grip... but it's been a while.

Let me see.  I will start with the Bikini comment first.
Bikini is like statistics – It shows a lot, but hides all the essentials.  So I would have to say 2 pieces as long as they are very small pieces.  That way leaves some for the imaginations.  Incomplete satisfaction is good thing.  Keeps the desire potent.   :smt044

With regards to Trevala, I use a ML one piece.  I think I have been using this rod for years.  I always go with 2 rods, but always ended up using this one exclusively.  You can’t go wrong with it.  :smt004

+1, dont even know if I *can* take it apart after 6 years  :smt044

I think the 2 piece separates right above the grip... but it's been a while.
That is correct, so it's really just the handle that separates.

Dang,
I didn't know they had a two piece version! I have a bunch of different two piece rods, many brands/styles but my hands-down favorite is my one piece, 7' ML Trevala.

But I am satisfied with simple efficiency.

I have a two piece that I use for surf launches so I can stow it in the hull during launch and landing. As far as the action. there's no difference because it breaks down at the top of the grip. The rest are one piece, but only because I couldn't find them in two piece.
