Kayak fishing in Montana

Hi,

For those of you who don't know, I moved to Montana in December.

A couple of weeks back I had the opportunity to do a little kayak fishing on a lake named Salmon Lake.  As you will notice in the picture, the conditions are a little different than I experienced in California.

Even though I have moved out of California, I still hope to occasionally kayak fish in the waters of the Pacific.  I have family in San Diego and Sacramento, so I figure I can get out a couple times a year if all goes well.

I'm in Missoula if anyone wants to visit!

Nice to hear from you, Sean.  Looks like a cool new locale for outdoor adventures - albeit cold ones this time of year!  If you find yourself in NorCal in August you can always get in touch to do a Shelter Cove run or Bear Harbor again.  Have fun and watch out for Griz!   

Damn! Is that sea foam or snow? Isn't Montana supposed to be the big sky state? Oh, do they have lingcod there?

I had hoped nobody would ask, but yes, I did catch some fish.  The three perch I caught were pathetically small and somewhat embarrassing (or else I would have mentioned it originally).  I hope to actually catch some trout during my next ice-kayak fishing adventure.

Have you taken that yak down the slopes yet?  Its a rocket ship ride!  But I must warn, if you decide to build a launch ramp be careful. The bottom of the yak may freeze and become stiff and somewhat brittle. Lost a ww boat that way.
