Just an update from Danielson, and Promar.

Danielson: Production manager aware of new reg. They will make changes to their traps. No ETA yet.

Promar: Suggest to get rid of the 3 ss clips on TR-102W. Tie a cotton twine on one door, loops 3 times, and tie other end to opposite door. When cotton twine fails, it will open the trap.
He also suggest cut the top, tie cotton string, making it 5". This will open the top too when cotton twine fails.
He said he talked to the CDFW office on 2 occasions, they said "should be ok, but it's depended on the warden on scene to decide"
He said we should get definite answer before the next year opener whether the new 2 suggestions above is ok, or he will making changes to new traps.

With a possible crab season around the corner I am wondering if anyone has modified their Promar 102s yet? Any Pics.

Photos would be extremely appreciated from anyone who has modified their traps. When I modify mine will post after making sense of the CalF&D silly literature.

Think you are doing it correctly then some jackass warden on a power trip says otherwise.

Here is a DFG page which shows some good legal ways to rig existing traps. The only thing I wonder is why not make the openings 8" so the big adult heavy breeders can also escape. Hoops are excluded from the regs.
Though a pain to deal with, I think it is for a good cause.
Of course having your number on the buoy will absolutely stop poaching since the poachers just thought it was one of there traps! ( HA HA)

A 5" opening will let a big 8" crab go through sideways.

Anyone else having a challenge finding the 120 cotton twine? Anyone know a good cheap source?

According to the manufacturer's website (TW Evans) that twine is a cotton/polyester blend and would therefore not be legal.

It is a 4 1/4" opening not 5". I cannot be more than 5 inches from the top of the trap.

Like I said hard to find 100% 120 cotton twine... any one else find it?  :smt006
