Went out with ScubaLuis trying to catch some Dungie for dinner. We got OTW around 11am and the fan already started blowing.  Met a couple NCKA fellows at the beach and they gave us the bad news: "zero keeper".  Well, we got to try for ourselves as I never got skunk catching Dungies at HMB.  Due to the fast drift and strong wind, we called it a day around 2:30pm.  There're many Reds (some are BIG) but the Dungies are short.  I avoided the skunk with 1 barely legal Dungie which I gave to Howard.  Not sure where're all the Dungies hiding?  :smt003  Some pictures of the day...

Sailfish thanks for the report. It was good to see you and ScubaLuis today.  I arrived in am and Nudling was gearing up. Dan arrived as I was launching. Dan and I did a radio check. I chased after Nudling.... otw.. no kayaks..anywhere. I stopped at the yellow buoy and drifted. Radio check. Radio check. Nothing. I drifted. A beautiful Sunday otw. Crabs for pots. And not a single kayak... Then I see a paddle. And Dan is tearing thru the water towards me. Thanks Dan! It was fun crabbing together. See you out there.  :smt006

I did find a Werner paddle on the jetty. Alas, before love between us started  :smt008,  I retuned that shaft to her owner. HMB kayak rentals.

Sounds like you did everything right. Glad you still had fun. Last time I went out there and got skunked was Thanksgiving 2 years ago. The swells were big and I kept loosing site of my buddy. Still had fun though  :smt001

Thanks guys! Great to get out there and I learned a ton. I want to try again on the 13th weather permitting.

Also need to figure out why everything I caught was in one trap and the other was untouched. Same bait and similar traps. The productive one is an SMI (I think) and has the access door on top. The Danielson collapsible is almost identical except no access on top. Did not get a single crab with the Danielson.

It's possible you don't have enough weight on the Danielson or didn't let out enough rope to compensate for the big waves for strong current.  Also it's not a bad idea to add weights to the doors.
