I have decided to give it a try. I found this site and the info seems legit.
Good video.

Great write up. I don't have a surf rod, so the old bass assassin is gonna have to suffice. I just can't sit here and not try to get some perch. It looks like a lot of fun.

Doesn't have to be a traditional "surf" rod lot of guys use  Salmon/Steelhead rods ..brands that won't break the bank like Daiwa ,Okuma and Shakespear have decent rods and fair prices .One of mine is 9'6" Daiwa

Today was..... informative. I saw and learned a lot but didn't catch anything. I hit the first beach I saw that had the right topography to it. I missed one fish and that was the only excitement. The tide and surf came up pretty big and after not too long the nice trough that was setting up was getting washed over pretty heavy. I had to wait through the massive sets to try to place my lure in the "sweet spot" I will try again but probably not a Sea Side state beach.

Hi Vermillion,
Just wondering what part of Seaside Shores you hit-up today for BSP. You mention you seen and learned a lot but wasn't  successful . Did you see any fish being caught at all! If so,  what was the bait and technique used to catch the little/big BsP :smt003 . If i may ask...In querying minds like to know :smt003

Yours truly

There were 2 other guys out fishing and I didn't see any fish landed.
I was using a Carolina rig and tried gulp worms, grubs and a frog pattern I had that looks a lot like a sand crab.
I'm gonna keep looking, any other free beaches around monterey that anyone can recommend?

Hey Vermillian- I wouldn't get too caught up in trying to thoroughly fish a certain little spot that looks good. I have my best luck when I work my way up and down the beach until I find the school. Once you find them, it's ON!

Good advice, I wouldn't stay in one hole on a river after covering the water and getting nothing. I will apply that to the surf now too. I fished 3 areas all with in a couple hundred yards but with a beach that stretches for miles I was just fishing a tiny amount of water.

I might hit it again tomorrow.

Rods: I like the 9-foot Okuma SST MH - it's rated to 2-1/2 ounces, but I've tossed five ounces with no problems.  Pretty cheap.
