Heard a few guys on channel 69 talking about Bonita near carmel and Macks off the lighthouse.

Tell us more, who was it. I heard names Eric and John.

I use my radios when my family travels in different cars. And left one on. I was drinking coffee at home and heard the conversation.

Post a report! Please

They might have been boaters, instead of yakkers.
Not many people on the water lately so you might be able to use process of elimination...if you can see any boats OTW, it was probably them. :-)  Interesting to hear they're still around though!

They were talking about Bonito being pretty deep. 200ft.
I thought it was strange that they were still around too. I tried to hit them on radio but no answer. So that might point to boats with bigger wattage radios.

HH radios are limited to 6watts; most are only 5watts.  Fixed mount radios are generally 25watts.  They win  :smt002

be careful -- landbased use of marine radios is frowned upon by the authorities.

I've seen a couple fishing boats out around the 200 ft zone between Pt Pinos and Pt Joe all week.  Wondered what they were catching.  Probably still Bonito.

The generally accepted notion is 'line of sight'.  There are a number of factors that come in play making a simple question, far from "simple".  Some factors include:

Line of Sight; Transmitter & Receiver Antenna Height above water level
Quality of VHF Transmitting
Quality of VHF Receiving
Transmit Power (watts)
Transmit Antenna Type/Quality
Receiver Antenna Type/Quality
Others transmitting on the same freq. with higher powered VHF radios

   Just a few factors.....

John yang and Eric .  Commercials.  They been getting em for last 2 weeks.  Not big scores but pretty good size ones.  My buddy got 7 today off the point.  They are in kayak range.

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

Are any of the party boats running them?  Their online reports only show them running dabs & macs on the Check Mate since New Year

Just curious ... where do these commercial catches end up? It's not like you see them on the markets here, and I'm guessing they don't have big enough hauls in this area to justify shipping them anywhere.
