If you were to have a custom built kayak rod would you build in a leash attachment?

I like that turkshead idea.  Seems like it'd be an easy way to incorporate a ring for a leash (or even a hookeeper) that's removeable if the angler doesn't like it.

Yes.  Though I have not needed to use the tether point, I really like the ring design on the Okuma kayak rods I have.

I think the hook keeper idea is a good one, but definitely NOT a ring. One of the biggest complaints we got in the store about the Okuma rods (other than breakage) was the annoying rattle of the ring. I would suggest a solid mount like a pad eye of sorts.

A pad eye would be suitable 

Put a bottle opener on it.... I mean a hook keeper paddle leash ring that looks like a bottle opener. A vastly utilitarian chingus
