1/30 South Caspar beach freedive (Fort Bragg)

I went out on the north side of Caspar beach. There was some great structure, big trenches between the rocks. There was not a lot of vegetation so I could see the ocean floor 20 feet below me. Unfortunately there weren't any fish either. I collected four red urchins for an uni dinner. On a positive note, there were tons of big abalone just sitting on the flat bottom in plain sight about 25 feet deep. I've had to fight with vegetation and turn upside down to get at them at Van Damme but I think come April I'll head back here for some deep but easy pickings. I may come back sometime this week with an underwater camera.

I used to do a lot of ab diving in Caspar when I lived in Fort Bragg. Good times......good times!

Good report.  The fish are there, Asa, they're just hiding from you!  Look under rocks.

I went to Casper for my first Ab adventure in August, I didnt think I was going to get anything, but it was as easy as anything.  I dont know if it was because of all my years diving for snagged lures and crawdads as a kid that made it easy for me, or if casper is just a good spot, but i thought it was easy.  And there were all sorts of fish hanging about.  also, casper had alright tent sites and showers.  I will be back.

Just remember.......when you are in the Fort Bragg area, you MUST hit the North Coast Brewery for the tasty grub and fine beer! (38 stout  and garlic waffle fries for me please!)

The North Coast Brewery has been closed for remodeling ever since I moved here. Good news is the message on their phone says they will reopen in mid-Febuary (Valentines day if they are smart).

I have seen the sign but never stopped there. It is 1st on my 'to-do' list when I am there.
Did you have a flashlight with you when you were diving?
