I've been dragging my feet for a while now and was all set on getting a Raymarine Dragonfly as an upgrade from my current Humminbird unit then I saw these - http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Products/Fishfinder-Chartplotter/hook-5-en-us.aspx

Now, I'm looking at the new Lowrance Hook 5. Has anyone had a chance to check these out yet? Any insights out there? Thanks

Sorry to not answer your question, but hodgesmarine.com has the Dragonfly 5 Pro for $415 with a $100 mail in rebate.

The Hook 5 is a full featured chirp unit.  They are in process of shipping the first units now so finding reviews may be few & far between.

The Hook & the Elite have the same specifications.  Basically, what others have said about the current (2015) Elite CHIRP Series will be applicable to the new (2016) Hook CHIRP Series.

I wonder if htis is why there is the good rebate on Elite right now...  Clear out the "old" Elite series to make room for the "new" Hook series?

FishingForTheCure:  Any reason to get the Hook over the Elite?
Fish laugh when I paddle by.  Sometimes they laugh so hard they fall on my hook.

Now is a great chance to jump on the Elite 5 CHIRP with a $50 rebate ... or buy the new Hook w/o rebate & get the same features  :smt002

To the best of my knowledge, armed with the info Lowrance gave me, it is a re branding to allow room for the new line; Lowrance Elite Ti Series units

For the money, the Simrad Go 5 or 7 looks MIGHTY tempting!

Wow, those have some nice features. Maybe more than I need on a kayak with engine monitoring and sound system controls. Damn nice though.
