I noticed on my last 2 trips I was reading less school fish marks.  Maybe they weren't around in the first place  :smt003 LOL.  So I took the transducer plate off for some cleaning.  My last cleaning was about 3 months ago.  This is the typical build up that won't flush out during regular washing after a trip.

I've had this problem too at GS9.  Mine was packed full of sand and gravel.  Luckily it's an easy fix.  I thought about modifying the plate a bit but it doesn't happen enough to lose sleep over.  It would be nice if they made the plate clear so you could see when sand, dirt or bait gets stuck in there.

Can you just leave the transducer cover off? Or will the transducer fall out?

Told you so, Mel....

I glued the transducer to the cover by putting silicone glue around the transducer, now I don't get issues with the readings anymore. I still clean and wash the muck off every few months.

Thanks FishingAddict.  That most likely explains why I was getting bogus readings in the shallows earlier this week.  I'll be checking it out before heading out today.  Going DEEP today.

Just cut away the bottom. Only takes 15 minutes or so.
