Fish Junky and I fished the port today.  We launched at the WOC at 8 AM in 30-degree temps.  Frost on everything especially the dock.  He had minnows and I was determined to catch my own so off he goes and I get busy with small hooks and mealworms.  That adventure lasted about 45 minutes before I realized I couldn’t catch a single piece of bait.  Well I brought plenty of other stuff so I throw the Wopper Plopper around for a while and then the S-Waver for zilch!  I finally catch a bass on a blue/silver Rat L Trap then another.  Now we’re getting somewhere.  The bite stopped as soon as it started.  I worked my way down to the cement plant and landed another bass on a Hippo swimbait.  Then I ran into Wingshooter and he was doing much better with a dozen bass thus far.  By then Junky was heading in after 4 hours and ice cold feet.  He managed a sub legal striper and a few hit/no sticks.  I followed suit and pulled out at around 1 PM.  A few other kayakers were in the port today but I failed to get any names except Mike.  Here’s a few photos to confirm it was way better to go fishing than sit on the couch….

Nice water this morning.

The first volunteer.

The only one to take a swimbait.

Hey Koke, nice picts. Myself, James and Amy got on the water around 7am on Sunday. I quickly realized the reaction bite was on so I capitalized. I had a fun day scoring almost 2 dozen quality bass and a few nice crappies and several short stripers. I did hook into a pig towards the end of the day but broke my off on his 2nd run for the bottom, dammit stole my favorite jerk bait too. It was cold but working to catch some fish kept me warm.

Mike, that sounds like 27 more fish than the zero I have caught at the port.

Nice work!

Haha, I don't know if it was 27 but it was a fun day. The striper fishing was really tough, for everyone. I dropped my bait on the heads of a bunch of small schools, I assume stripers with no luck. That's when I knew it was going to be a long day so I switched up to something a bit more aggressive and stayed on the move to keep warm.
