go cheap......go blk&wht......they all see the same thing = structure, bait and fish.

v below is a baitball,,,,,with a couple of fish breaking into the ball. I have had this on my yak for 9yrs. It has done its job many of time.
It is a Eagle Fish ez 240......it cost under $100 w/batt. There are many out there, but this one has been BOMB PROOF!

+1 here mine is 8 years old and seen a lot of salt with no problems...BoMB pRoOF.

Consider a separate GPS so when batteries go dead you don't lose both.

West marine had some reconditioned Mark4 HDI units for $99. With gps, reg and downscan sonar this deal can't be beat. I believe it also has insight genesis. Make sure to get the extended warranty. When you're ready to upgrade to a larger color head you can use the same transducer.  Awesome deal if you're on the cheap.

I can almost promise I will be back on here in a few weeks asking for the names of parts to make a quick connector to and from the battery  :smt011.  I have looked at lots of examples on line and thus far I am seeing this:

-inline fuse for ff to battery
-box
-something that connects to the black and red wires that looks like a plug (I don't know what this is called)
-The other half of this pluglike item.

I feel as if I might be ontrack lol

I found these LED string connectors on Amazon and gave them a try.  Actually they were way better built than what I was expected them to be.  They have a very high quality silicon o-ring to make it waterproof and very solid connection.  And with just a dab of dielectric grease, I am confident they will last for a very long time.

The battery (12v 8ah SLA brick) is housed in a Pelican 1120 foam lined case, fuse added inline inside the case, and wires were routed out of the case via the Hobie Thru Hull kit.  This is one solid package and really easy to hook up and go.
