I know a little lake nearby where a buddy of mine cfaught a few healthy fish last week?

Also i have another tip but it's on the Westside, so I can't mention publicly it due to Westside boyz.

Ps.  If your yak is motorized, technically it should be registered.  But I don't think most authorities know that, or would be able to 'tell' once it's in the water.  just pretend to paddle.

Outrageous.  I could understand if I was a resident and then made an out of state purchase, but to tax me for a vehicle I bought when I was a resident in another state doesn't make sense to me.
Your problem is that you're thinking about it like a reasonable person. It's  not a 'sales tax' it's a 'use tax'. You didn't think you just get to use the thing you own, did you?  :smt013

I think inspectors might actually give you a hard time.  I've seen them turn boats around for out of state stickers, and on their inspection forms they're required to fill out your license plate.  do you think registering your truck in CA is way too expensive?  is that why you're not doing it?

Yeah, that's exactly why.  I went through the whole process, and was about to cash out and without batting an eye the clerk at the DMV said the total will be $2600………..I thought I was going to have a heart attack at 29 years old!!  They wanted me to pay the difference in sales taxes for the truck I bought in Alabama when I wasn't even a resident…..nor even thinking of becoming one.

Having just gone though registering an out of state purchased truck and paying $4400 in sales tax and registration I understand the process.  If you bought the truck out of state and registered it in the other state then then brought it into CA after "6 months" you only pay the registration fees and possibly the sales tax difference between the states.  If you buy it and don't register it in the other state it is assumed that you did not pay slaes tax and you get charged the CA tax amount unless you have papers for the state of purchase showing that you paid sales tax at time of purchase.  I did not register my truck in TX or pay the sales tax. That said i still paid $15k less than an in CA purchase

now about Bass, no inspection at Rancho Seco and it has bass, its a 2.5 hr drive with camping right at the water

Ah, that would be why. I thought it might be an older truck that you've owned for a while - those you wouldn't have to pay the use tax on, as long as you have used it more than 612 months in the other state and can prove it.  Registration fees itself I always think people should pay for - it pays for the CHP and some of the road maintenance, so I think if you're driving in CA you should pay for the roads you use.  But the use tax thing doesn't make sense, I agree, if the DMV is thinking you have to pay that.

to avoid the new vehicle tax issue in re-registering here, it must be 15 months old or have more then 7500 mi on it.

If you not apposed to driving to Los Banos Area we have the D Dam. The Los Banos Creek Resevoir. We were there yesterday and we had the lake to ourselves. The lake has Bass Crappy Bluegill and Catfish. If you want to try it, shoot me a PM and I would be happy to show you around!

Do they inspect for mussels at LBCR?

Yes, bring ONLY a clean dry boat yak or canoe. I got kicked out for 10 days because my fishing partner had washed his kayak the night before.
I also got red tagged at the Forebay for 7 days because I had dry mud from Don Pedro lake in my yak from getting in and out.

Your problem is that you're thinking about it like a reasonable person.

That kind of thinking will get you nowhere in California. And I know that for a fact, because I'm NowhereMan...
