Record Black Sea Bass Picture from 1903

Man, saw this on the interweb today - supposedly landed alone . . .

Wow

That was a beast of a fish, on 1903 gear especially.
wonder where that was?

I kinda think it was Catalina or one of the channel islands, they grew big out there, actually they still do!

I've encountered those big ass fish a couple of times at the Channel Islands.

Had a couple 6'-7' fish follow me around for at least 20 mins while I was shooting fish on tanks. One got close enough to reach out and touch.

I want to say it was San Miguel Island but can't remember. Would have to check my dive log.

They aren't afraid of divers are very curious and appeared harmless.

Can't fish for them anymore. I occasionally see them caught on my long range trip to Mexican waters and always wondered how they could be brought back to port legally.
