I'd like to put a Scotty flush mount near the front of my Hobie (centered). That area is not flat---more of an inverted V shape. So, I figure I could cut a small piece of starboard and file it down on one side to fit the profile of the kayak, giving a flat surface to attach the mount. I'm sure this will work, as I've done similar things before.

But it seems like a better option would be to use a heat gun and bend the Scotty mount so that it fits the kayak profile. Anybody ever try this? Any thought on whether it will work?

Go to TAPS plastic, get a piece from there scrap bin and model/grund it into the adapter shape you need...

Thanks. Yes, I've done something like that before. And for the mount I want to install, it's only about 1/4" drop from the center to edge, so 3/8" black starboard would work for the shim, and it would hardly even be noticeable. But, I thought the heat-bending idea would be good---just not sure whether the plastic in the scotty mount is going to like it. Seems like I've seen somebody do this online, but can't track it down...

Or you can take the heat gun to your Hobie and create a flat spot. :smt005

Form a piece out of Epoxy or Polyester resin.    add chopped strands of fiberglass into the mix for strength.

Good idea---definitely easier than whittling down a piece of starboard plastic.
