01/20 -- Non Yak -- South of Dumbarton -- Buoy 18

Left Coyote Point around 7:00 am with FAC conditions and way warmer then last weekend.  We motored down to south of the Dumbarton and were anchored up by 9:00am.  The sun came out and with a good incoming tide we were ready.  I was sitting down reading a magazine, when I look up and my pole goes serious bendo.  I grabbed it and gave a yank, fish on solid hookup.  We were in 20 feet of water and the Sturgeon first came up to the back of the boat, and wrestled around for about 10 seconds, and then took off.  It ran for about 400 ft. and then stopped, and torpedoed straight back for the boat.  I reeled as quick as I could and could barely keep up as it came to the boat.  It then took off again and ran a long ways, maybe 500 to 600 Ft.  (I was using 40 lb spectra, with a TLD 15, Alan Tani Upgrade  , Seeker Persuader 6 ' 5", 8 ounce pyramid, Ghost/Grass combo, Steel Leader, Uni knot)   At one point I told my friend, I may not be able to stop it and he may want to pull the anchor.  Just as he started the boat, the fish stopped and I was able to turn him back.  He was near the boat fairly deep and was making short runs.  I saw a couple of air bubbles come up from under the water and was told this happens when the Sturgeon is exhausted.  He came up, and I had my friend give the sturgeon a poke on his head and he didn't move at all.  His body was sinking and I knew he was ready.  Put the snare around him,  and pulled him up into the boat.

Measured 70 1/2"  After three years of trying, I guess I was finally due.  Great day on the water.

Beautiful day, sailboat and big fish, man it doesn't get much better than that.  Add some beer, a BBQ and a TV on the deck and that would be the ultimate fishing trip!!!
