There seem to be some really good buys on FFs right now. I've been eyeballing the Raymarine Dragonfly 7.  West marine has it for 650 with the navionics gold package. For a hundred less, the gps store has the same unit with the navionics+ package.

Any thoughts? Is it worth the extra hundred for the gold? What am I getting for that extra hundred? Should I be looking at something else entirely?

Hope you guys can help me figure this out!

Thanks, Jim

I'm a lowrance man myself, the elite 5 w navionics chip and screen cover for 275 at BPS and other places is a great deal right now.

The BPS deal is hands down the best bang for the buck in a 5".  Otherwise the Elite 7 chirp for $500 at West Marine.

All right! I have seen some good deals on the lowrance elite series too. What about these software options on the navionics stuff? Do I need to have one of these premium options?

Thanks again for the input, started looking at the Raymarine originally because of Jackson Kayak's affiliation with them, just drinking the Kool-ade I guess. I have no brand preference, just want something that's going to be easy for me to use and see, and be a reliable resource for years to come.

Jim

The Nav+ upgrade is an extra chip that enhances the chart maps.  A variety if chips can be used & added at any time.  It looks like several of the holiday deals going on include a chip in the package deal.

The new Garmin chirp models look like they'll be pretty awesome, and I don't even work for Garmin...

I switched to Humminbird last year and the Helix 5 DI/GPS has been absolutely awesome!  Less than $400 and I"ll install it on your yak for free!!

Why & How?
I was wondering the same thing,is raymarine really that far superior of a product than all the others out on the market
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it
