my wife is a little ticked off about this one, but i need to get started on these or they'll never get scheduled at all.

this coming thursday, 1/25/07, i'm going to host another reel repair seminar at the fisherman's warehouse in san jose, from 10am to 7pm. the format will be the same. i'll have 10 repair stations set up with some basic tools, all the grease, and pretty much all of the spare parts we'll need.

for those of you that have never attended one of these before and don't know, they're free. you need only pay for the cost of parts, if you need anything at all. i'd like to stick to star drag reels only. if you want to try a lever drag, we can give it a shot. bear in mind that even when i work on a lever drag reel, it takes about an hour. basically, i'll set you up at a work station and have you pull the reel apart to a certain point when it goes "boing," then i will help you make the changes or upgrades we need to make, i will "un-boing" it and have you put it back together the rest of the way. then we'll run it through it's paces, stamp it as "done" and move on to the next reel.

the entire month of february is already shot. sometime in march, before salmon season opens up, i will have a saturday seminar at western sports in san rafael. and if i can get two more saturday passes from my wife, i'm also looking at coastside #2 in pacifica and the fisherman's warehouse in manteca. nothing is guaranteed, though. there's a leak in the upstairs bathroom that i still have to look at and i'm not sure i can fix. no weekend passes until this, and several other home improvement projects, are done. um, is there a plumber in the house? :smt012

Alan, I know you said star drags, but is spinning gear totally out of the question?I have a Penn SS that needs taking apart, cleaning and inspection, nothing major. Is that doable? All my star drags are in good shape.

Sounds like a cool seminar. :smt004

Alan, Thanks so much for your help.I was able to pick up the bearing at Bayside on the way home. It's part number 20-722 and that was the roller bearing for a Penn 4500SS.My reel works great now and you taught me how to take apart all my Penn SS series reels so I can take them apart and put them back together if I have to.

For those of you who haven't taken one of Alan's seminars I highly recommend it.He worked magic on some tricky reels today.

Alan you are a true Jedi master of reels  :notworthy:

aaron, glad you remembered todd.  he's a great guy.  can you get me the part # for that bearing?  i want to order some.  as far as nor cal goes, i've been thinking about fort bragg.  it's just hard with kids in school and a working wife.  maybe someday.
