I'm planning on going to Lake Del Valle to catch some stripers tomorrow.  I know they have warning about eating the fish out of most lakes around here but I still see alot of people taking fish home with them. Does anybody here ever keep any fish out of the lakes? Are they really as bad as they say they are? I would like to be able to take home some of the fish I catch and eat them atleast once in awhile.

They just have higher mercury levels than a lot of fish AFAIK. You should be fine unless you're a child, pregnant, or elderly. I would not take my word for it though, talk to the people on site.
Thresher in avatar and Soupfin Shark in signature both caught and pic taken by me.

Always looking for new people to fish with!

When are you going to get there? I've been meaning to get down to Del Valle though I have some house work I should get to some time tomorrow.

We are actually headed there right now. I have the wife and kids and none of them wanted to kayak in the rain so we will be renting in of there fishing barges for the day. I'd rather kayak but it is fun to be on the water no matter what.

Sorry I couldn't make it; it turned my alarm off when I heard the rain.

How was the fishing? It looks like there have been pretty good reports.

It was really crazy windy there and next to impossible to fish from that barge we rented. I tried to anchor but it wouldn't hold us at all so I ended up just driving and trying hold us in place while my wife fished. I saw some guys in a bass boat that were catching a few stripers but we didn't get anything at all. Well we did find two anchors and a fishing pole  laying on the shoreline. So we didn't come home totally empty handed. One of the marina guys showed us a pretty nice salmon he caught out of clifton court that morning.
