Pretty Cool Vids on CA's Commercial Uni and Abalone Fisheries

Couldn't sleep last night....wound up bumping around YouTube till the wee hours. I came accross these videos and thought both were pretty cool.

A general introduction to the CA Uni fishery. I'm a little envious of the lifestyle some of these guys have lived.  How sweet would it be to living off the water, commercial diving and surfing some of the wildest places in the state. Especially during the heyday when the $$ was really flowing.

 


This one is a long but interesting historical review of commercial abalone diving.  If you're sensitive to carnage pics you might want to skip this one.  Piles of abs......these guys raked the floors.

My buddies uncle used to dive commercially. When the state dried up he moved to New Zealand and now dives commercially there. Pretty crazy.
