In my haste to get on the road from Mickfish's place in Healdsburg my Marauder never got strapped down on the trailer.  It went on a walk about somewhere between Healdsburg and Asti.  If you see a white Marauder with a hawaiian print seat, and NCKA decals please let me know.

Its probably FUBAR anyway, but ya never know.  Thanks.

That sucks :smt013 did you call the CHP?
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Yep.  The steelie was the prettiest, but it was still fun to get one on the yak.

Yes, it sucks about the boat...I was all goofy today...almost forgot to strap Mikes yak on the shuttle.  It had to happen eventually...and it happened today.

Sean:

so sorry about the boat.

so you didn't hear it leave the rack?  Musta gone airborn all at once.

The wheel is still turning, my friend.

I'm sending out positive energy that the person who rescued it is just waiting to figure out how to get it back to you. CHP and county sherriff's office contact is what I'd do.

think positive.

Thanks.  After speaking with the CHP last night it obvious that someone picked it up before I could turn around.  Pretty much over it at this point.  Not sure whats left after a 70 mph ride down 101 anyhoo.

Just got off the phone with SO and CHP dispatch and still NADA.  The only thing you can hope for now is the POS who took it doesn't see a small pin hole in the hull and he takes it out and sinks it?  Sorry thats kinda Harsh....

I learned my lesson after last years Elk Tourney. I had everything strapped down but wasn't happy with the configuration. I switched some straps around and in the process was distracted while saying goodbye to someone who was on their way home. Hopped back in the 4Runner and off I went. When I switched straps I got one side done but not the other. Cost me my favorite tent, duffle bag and an air pump.
My biggest concern wasn't so much the loss of my stuff, but what could have happened to anyone else on the road.
I now make it a point to start my vehicle as if I were ready to leave for my trip, then get out and check that everything is tied down. So far it has saved my ass once so it is worth the extra little hassle. Another time in doing this double check it reminded me of something I almost forgot, my waders, which I could not had paddled without that particular day.
It almost seems like an OCD episode, but the extra 20 seconds makes it all worth while.
Sorry to hear about your maurader Sean. If you don't get a call soon I am sure someone from NCKA will spot it somewhere. Just make sure to get a license plate number when you do.

Sean,

Sorry about the lost Maurader.  I've lost a lot of gear too.

To cheer you up, just reflect back on those last couple trips of the sturgie and steelie!!!  Those picts/memories will keep you from getting bummed out!!!!!  I'm jealous.

Stu:  Its whats holding me together!  Seriously, the more I think about it I'm just glad I didn't cause an accident or hurt somebody.  I WILL however always do a second pre-flight inspection...lesson learned!

Speaking of OCD I always do the once around after cranking the Ignition then pull over after 10 15 min and make sure everything is still tight. I once lost a Metal house door and frame at 60 MPH. watching that thing flip end over end down the highway was almost as scary as the look on the guys face that was following me. I had one of my guys in Reno lose his spare and go thrugh someones windshield. When he got out and ran back the tire was sitting in the empty childs carseat on the passenger side and the driver was frozen to the steering wheel. He had just dropped his kid off 3 min before. Never can be to carefull.

Who hasn't forgotten something on the roof?!  I forgot my wetsuit once at Carmel SB.  I actually saw it fly off my roof in the rear view mirror.  I pulled over and watched cars swerving left and right to avoid it.  very scary.  Dude in a truck actually stopped traffic, got out, recovered the wetsuit, then threw it at me as he drove by.

Another time coming back from Stillwater south, one of my hatches flew off my hobie.  Greg 6Mhz was following me.  He swerved but it caught his front tire - good thing he drives a jeep!

From a liability standpoint, I'd be jumping for joy if I never heard back from anybody about a boat that flew off my roof.

Check your automotive policy or call your insurance agent/ broker if you want to file a claim of loss for hte yak.  Don't know what your deductible is, but the lost yak might trigger coverage as a component of your "covered automobile."
