Just an FYI. Those videos just posted here about the CCK class were taken at the  Pillar Point Lagoon. It is a popular spot for paddle surfers. Until about eight years ago it was all kayakers. Now it's half SUP's and the rest is surfski's, waveski's, surf kayaks and river kayaks. Most everybody knows each other and we all get along well.
I just wanted you to know it's a great spot for practicing in the waves.  The guys at HMB kayak has surf classes there with little sit on tops (spikes). Kenny Howell and John Lull from CCK have been surfing there for decades. Strip down your boat and come out anytime. There' plenty of room to sit on the side and pick your wave. Lots of reforms on the inside to play on too.  There will be a big turnout this weekend because of the swell coming in from that huricane. Kowabonga!

Cool to see Kenny Howell & John Lull mentioned, I knew them a little from working at CCK. Good times.

I still have my little ski, but it seems I'm always just on the cusp of taking it out.
Every good swell I think, I gotta practice this winter to handle these good waves.

maybe 2016 is my year.

Hope you score some good ones off this swell Magoo!

Rehabing a shoulder but Im hoping make it down there next year. Spending some of the down time upgrading my cobra strike, but it's hard not to consider Corran Addison's latest. The Buzz Kill

Wow look at the rocker on that thing.
I've always been intrigued by buttsurfing. And I'm honestly surprised it isn't more popular down here.
Where are the videos, Tim? You mentioned them but I'm not sure what you're referring to--and I'd watch em!

Hey Cen Coast. I was refering to the CCK saftey class videos a few threads down from here. We are hoping tomorrow will be like last weekend. Greasy calm, 5', 10 secs., really nice surfing. There's a local dude named Denton that counts his waves (SUP'er). Towards the end of his session last saturday I asked him how many he had in his bag. His answer was 27.That mo fo had over 30 waves in two hours.
That Buzz Kill looks pretty cool. I just recently switched from a surf kayak to a wave ski like that. (Infinity)

That is what caught my eye initially too (I am a master at pearling). That, and the healthy amount of aft volume. One of the reasons that I switched from the WS Kaos to the Cobra Strike was that I felt like I needed more on my backside.
My only criticism would the tupperware hatch.

If you are interested Pat, Ill let you know when I plan on heading down. Ill bring a few boats and maybe a SUP. I'd appreciate a partner . 1 to ride, 1 to document.

Sorry for the threadjack!

I'm always down...and I predict a strong winter for surfing. The funny thing is I saw a guy playing in the surf on a little ski today! Right after saying that I never see em on this side if the bay.

It's super fun, and an incredible workout.  Our staff typically hits up the beach south of the Moss Landing harbor mouth.  It's normally very peaky with some easy rips to help paddle out, and plenty of space to spread out and give the board surfers lots of elbow room.  We've also got loads of beginner surf boats on up to some killer glass ones that you're welcome to demo.  Surf kayaking is something we're trying to revive.  I've got two guys on staff (Mat Hoff and Zack Boyd) that are commonly ranked in the top 10 worldwide, and they're really encouraging to anyone wanting to give it a go.  Mat is also the guy in charge of putting on the annual Santa Cruz Paddlefest, the big 3-day surf kayak/SUP contest at Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz.

Let us know if it's something you'd like to try.  I love board surfing, but I also know I can have a ton of fun in weak 3 foot slop in a kayak - it's always overhead if you're sitting down!
