I do not know anything about crabbing or crab pots  but I was at Santa Cruz Costco today and when you walk in you see a big wall of crab pots with all the rope and a bait thing and a float ,,it says complete set up but I do not know   ...I think it was 139$,,

But heavy for kayak IMO.

Those are going to be a bit heavy for kayaking.  And they are made to last a long time and soak for days if not weeks at a time.  But I'd personally go with the Promar 102's, rigged like ChuckE's article on crabbing:  http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?page=18 (which seems to be missing pics now?)

I have the 101, and the 102.  And the 101's do work, and are much lighter and smaller.  I find that two of the 102's end up fishing better than 4 of the 101's, but that was just me.  So 3 102's and your probably set  :smt044

I've also used the rigid Danielson traps, with four entrances.  They do rock, weigh a lot less than the Costco ones, but it's harder to handle more than one or two.  I also have used the ambush hoops and plain old crab rings with success as well, but prefer to do the traps instead.

I thought the Costco traps were the same as the square folding Danielsons?

I bought these on Amazon for 25 bucks + Prime shipping. I loved the updated crab cages. It super simple to put bait into the traps now. These are great!

Not these.  My local Costcos have 'em too.  They look like the "commercial" traps.  Big and heavy.

Costco does not have the Danielson square look a like traps that they had last year, maybe later.
these ones are way too heavy for a kayak.
also read Glen's crabbing for dummies.

No, you have Shrimp Pots.  Don't get that confused with your Crabs.

Anyone know if the Santa Cruz Costco still has the traps in? Hoping to pick 4 of them up this weekend when in town for the Roots tourny.

Dick's Sporting Goods (online) shows the Daneilson traps.

Outdoor Pro Shop (online) shows both Danielson and Promar traps.

Coyote Bait & Tackle (online) in San Jose shows the Danielson trap.
