Here is the photo of the cracked scupper (I had to cut a 5" hatch hole to view this as this was under the seat), as well as what I believe could be the reason behind it (the drilling over the scuppers taking too much plastic off), and future headaches (more cracked scuppers)!

The photos are as follows, you can see the cracked scupper and location (right where the top deck is)... Then you can see the light and how it radiantly shines through this connection... What they should have done was never ground down the edges of the scupper, left the mold as it was, as I think they took too much plastic off the edges of the scupper and created weak points..

It is for sure a design / MFG issue, as it being the first year out, they may have over looked this? Or maybe it was just an ironic deal on one kayak.. but I highly doubt that.. Just like new cars, 1st year designs end up needing some work!

I spent over 2 - 3 hours on hold trying to get ahold of confluence just to discuss the design.. No luck, left a message yesterday, still no call back.. Its no biggie the deal was a great one and I am being taken care of.. Just keeping you posted!

Here is a photo of the cut out I made and what light is shining through at the most narrowest part of the cut out I could find... a little less then 1/16"

Yea i am following this thread. Would love to know the outcome. Hopefully its just a defect.

Do you see the plastic being thin all around? Or just in certain spots?  I was so sure it is thick enough since the overall boat is on the heavy side (75lbs) compared to its competitors in the same class from O.K, Jackson, etc. So i would assume more plastic? Or maybe thin but denser (stronger?l

Perhaps some wildy prostaff can shine some light on this topic.

Hobie's have a foam underneath the seat area. It takes off less stress to the scuppers (i think).

When I had my tarpon 120 it was really well made.  The plastic did not flex its very thick compared to my revo.

So maybe wilderness designed the thresher with a flaw.  I really like how its built for fishing too.   Good call on scrapping it even if nothing happens with the repair it would always be in the back of your mind..  Could have stuffed it with pool noodles?

Most kayaks have thin plastic scuppers from what I've seen.  This is why you shouldn't use a scupper cart on kayaks that aren't Hobies because they aren't' designed to be used with them.  To all the DIY scupper cart builders out there, be warned!

UPDATE!!! This was completely a MFG defect. I went and checked the other Threshers out, they are all drilled differently, to almost no drilling at all on the scuppers... I would safely say, if you were wanting to invest in a Thresher, just make sure the scuppers are not dremeled out. The one on display at my local dealer was night and day compared to the one that has this issue!

Agreed, but this was entirely separate.. not cart related, I will never use nor ever have used a scupper cart..

Got reimbursed for the issue, off to the recyclers it goes  :smt011

My tarpons plastic is very strong I believe so was the thresher, until they dremeled out the edges of the scuppers, not entirely sure why they did this, but it was definitely a flaw with the tool operator.

Almost sounds like it was a 'Demo' model or factory 2nd unit.

Make sure you take off EVERYTHING before recycling the hull, especially that seat! Lots of good spare parts.

So you got compensated for a factory defect, after buying the kayak used? From the company? That's pretty good customer service, yeah?

Allen... The place that helped me with the killer deal on the yak was a well known place, they had the BEST customer service about the whole dilemma... It was a very pleasant experience and I was very happy to see them atleast try to hook someone up that would give her a go at repairing a botched repair....

As far as wildy goes, they still have yet to call me back or respond to my email in regards towards inquiry about possible others having the same issue... I waited on the phone for over 3-4 hours just to have a little conversation about the concern that some others may have the same issue, not to complain or expect them to do anything with the one I had, as mine was un-warrantied due to me not being the original owner (who I would suspect was treated with a brand new replacement, hence the good deal)....All is very good and I couldn't be happier with the outcome...

FYI for those who didn't read all of the post. This was a one in a million defect and as I have seen on 3-4 other Threshers out there, they were drilled completely different then the one I got around the scuppers!!

PS.. you can delete this thread if you would like... it really did no justice towards the initial question.. minus Jim (baitman) being awesome and giving it the good ol evaluation of what he thought for me!

Well thats not good for Wildy I guess but great for the "other place."  any reason to keep it a secret?

Sadly, the retailer often can get listened to when we the consumer are brushed off, or postponed......

Yay Baitman!

     Gee,,, thanks Bushy.  :smt006

At each of the scuppers, the flashing was cleaned up using some sort of a countersink  reaming tool.  Just looks like whoever was on the end of that tool , carved out too deep, leaving it paper thin in areas.          As to what caused that one scupper at the seat to completely crack in half... ???  it could have been this or that...   It could have been abuse, damaged in shipment,, etc.
I wouldn't say it was a design defect.  Those guys have a vast amount of experience molding kayaks. This being a new model may take a bit of tweeking to perfect it.    So don't think you should judge all Threshers as susceptible to this happening.
I would have repaired it differently, but my judgement call, after the fact was to advise against trusting this out on the water.    Even at 300 bucks,,, it would be difficult to ever try and re-sale that down the road.
