Anyone else have issues with this? I just had one sent to me and at first I thought they sent me the wrong lid. It was too big to fit on the bucket lip. After wrestling with it for a few minutes I finally got it on, but it's buckled on the top (2nd pic). To get it on it seems that you have to start sealing it where the cutout for the hatch lock is, then work your way around the rest.

Yep. I bought one last month. Same issue. Seems the quality control is dropping off. The older lids fit fine.

I use the deep bucket and don't use a lid. I find that even a lid that "fits" is a pain to get on and off, and when the hatch is closed, no water gets in there anyway.
I don't like stuff that sucks.

Same problem with the lid plus when too much weight (a few mooching rigs and lead heads) is put into the bucket it slips from the ridge and  drops to the floor of my Outback.

+1.  I was hoping I could reinforce the bucket around the "U" shape portion of the gear bucket to keep it from collapsing.  It's annoying when the bucket drops

Oh man, sounds like I just bought a headache!

So, the cutout for the latch is where it comes loose and drops? The crappy lid (if you can get it on) might prevent the bucket from deforming and falling down.

For reinforcing, you could try gluing some strips from a 1mm kitchen cutting mat. They're thin, but stiff while being pretty flexible. Problem is that gluing plastics together can be a pain, and some kinds require very specific glues to bond well.

You could also try velcro-ing a piece of thick foam to the bottom ( or to the inside of the hull) to support the weight from the bottom.

Those are the first thoughts that popped into my head, but I'll only try these if this thing becomes a real pain.

When I purchased mine from Carl at Adventure Sports he told me to let the lid sit out in the sun for about 1/2 hour and then put it on. It worked great for me?

Thanks for the link Tote.  I'm going to try and find that bucket.

That is exactly what I did. But I still hate how water drips into the bucket/hull every time I open the hatch.

I have a deep bucket I cant even use.   I lost the lid, and put a few 4 oz jigs in it and it would fall down the hatch.   Im surprised hobie never reinforced a flimsy bucket. My throw away Tupperware is better quality and it cost a dollar not 20.,

I use mine all the time.  I put gorilla tape around it so it doesn't compress or get out of shape.  I put my  sinkers in different sizes in there up 3 lbs+.  Mine are over 5 years old.

I does have some minor cracks.  I just put gorilla tape over the cracks.

Interesting.. I haven't even launched for my maiden voyage yet, and this has me thinking.  Great thread.
