Hello All :smt006,

I am wanting to make my first kayak fishing trip on October 10th (pending weather and swell report--I could do the 11th as a back-up plan) and would love to have some of you join me.  I am hoping to catch fish on my maiden voyage so I am going to target rockfish and maybe get lucky and score a lingcod.  I have recently purchased a yak,  seat, paddle, and PDF.  I am working on getting the funds for a radio and will have one by then.  The kayak i purchased came with a used fishfinder but I dont quite have the funds for the battery and a replacement wire.  Therefore, I will be going without a fishfinder.  If you are available and would like to join, then you are more then welcome.  I would like to have at least one fishing buddy just in case things go south.

I know this is a little early for the hook up board but wanted to give an out of towner like me the chance to plan a trip.

Have a good day!

I also need a cable for the FF as one is eroded.  It sells on their website for 35.  I have a limited amount of funds between now and then and will be putting them into the VHF radio and basic lures.

Thanks for the info on the battery.  I may wait a few weeks and look into getting a new unit.  The cheapest one at Bass pro shop is a newer model then the one it came with.  So i may try and save the 150 and go for one of those.

As for battery, I bought my battery from Home depot for about $25.  It is a backup battery for a garage door opener.  Just be sure to look at the dates & get the newest one possible.  I saw some on the shelf near the emergency light section that were already over 3 years old  :smt011  The garage door opener batteries were only a few months old & better suited for where/how I wanted to mount it.

You don't NEED a fishfinder, especially at a place like Stillwater that has tons of kelp. It's probably a wise move to pack light for your first couple ocean trips too.

That is great to know.  Any chance the two of you would be able to make that weekend?

I might fish there that week end.  Will know for sure when it gets closer to that date.

I can probably do Sunday the 11th, but not Saturdays. Will keep you in mind and send update in 2 weeks.

Awesome, to hear.  I may be able to go both days,  depends on what my family has planned.

You don't NEED a fishfinder ...

I do. For me, my FF is like Wilson, the volleyball in Cast Away. I talk to it and, I swear, sometimes it talks to me...
