Just wanted to get everyone's opinions on their favorite Salmon lures for jigging off our freshwater channels. I personally don't have a favorite yet and looking for some Hot Lures for Sac river this weekend. If I had to pick though without prior knowledge I would most likely go with a 2 or 3 oz kastmaster....seems to catch everything

Works best when trolling.  Not for use when mooching.  Rod & Reel optional.  Landing net suggested.

I like darker colors. Mackerel is my favorite. Second would be purple. Then Red and black . Not saying other colors don't work, iv caught plenty on chart and blue but I just like running dark colors especially on overcast. As for brand I like the lazer minnow 2oz. The hooks on the 2oz suck but are sharp as hell. They get bent out after one or two fish but are easy to bend back. I have a few blade runner spoons I use here n there but am not a fan of the the action for salmon. I like those more for stripers.

As for color I really dont thinm thats nearly important as your action of the jig. Have yall ever seen the informative fisherman vid on jiggin? That video changed my perspective on jigging forever. It really does matter your stroke, speed of stroke and letting it hit bottom. Fish arent as stupid as most ppl think.

Yup. It could be black. Who cares. With the right action in the right place at the right time it will get nailed regardless in my opinion. Fish on fellers!

A 2.5 oz chartreuse or glow Megabait. I put a slight bend in the body without cracking the finish which helps it to flutter a bit more on the drop.

I'm all for presentation over color, but the two side by side (action wise, time/place), I think the color does add some level of final choice for the fish.

Red, black and forest green is my favorite. I've caught a bunch of hogs on this color.

I'm a firm believer that color matters at times.  Sure, you'll still hit fish that aren't wary and color doesn't make any difference, but this not the case more often than not.

Our recent trip to Yakutat to target silvers has me convinced of this.  There were times where a switchup in color, run through the same water in the same school triggered the bite.  The interesting part, however, was that I couldn't discern any rhyme or reason when a particular color would be hot or not, and sometimes after a school got spooked after pulling some fish out on one color, a change up to another color would turn the bite back on.  It seemed like most of the colors we ran produced at one time or another.

Moral of the story ... change the colors up regularly?

-Allen
