I need an experienced block person to work with me on a 175  pot permit on my 40ft Oregon dory. Gear work starts around middle of next month. Pay depending on experience.

Oh yeah that's right I have a family, mortgage, regular job etc etc etc.

Seriously any of you younger guys that wants in this is a great opportunity. Sharky is well connected in the industry and straight up loves to fish. Great chance to learn here from one of the best!

What kind of experience is needed for this kind of job?  What are the expectations of a block person/deckhand?  Sorry for such a simple question.

Experience needed would be at least a season of running block on another commercial Dungeness boat. My salmon deckhand just quit so I now have an opening for a greenhorn. These are not part time jobs. Expect to work every day including weekend and holidays . Expect back to back 20hr days. You'll be required to move hundreds of 100lbs+ a day and do this on a tossing boat in nasty sea conditions.

So it's essentially deadliest catch, minus the cold and cameras.  :smt044 Still don't know what "running block" is, I'm entire noob when it comes to some of the fishing on the west coast.  I've spent some time on a shrimping boat in GA, never as a job.  It was still relatively hard work and it was only recreational, such tasty tasty recreating...so I can imagine how much harder it is throwing around those big pots.  Hold it down out there, and I'll keep enjoying your catch.
