So my uncle(67) can't go on kayak with me. He just will not do it. I want to get him on some rockfish. he loves to eat them. So from my previous adventure down at Monterrey and PG I saw some places that perhaps hold rockfish. anyone have some places that I can take him to? I went to lover's point and saw some area that can be fish but is close to the marine protection area. on DFG site the north portion of LP is off limit but can we fish on point facing south? I know PG have some shore areas to fish as well. also, while scanning around on Google maps I came upon some kayakers at 17miles

There are fish in just about all spots I have been to.  Cabazon, lings, greenlings and perch are often close enough to get from shore.  Other schooling Rock fish often are just out of range of a fishing pole but can be caught from shore if you find the right spot.  Just not as often as the others.  I have only been down that way a few times in recent months so can't give exact spot for you but if you come north to mendo area I can give you a few suggestions.  Have fun out there.  If he is up for it go out on a charter rock fish trip and you would have a blast and catch a bunch of them.

Joe its tough to get a good rockfishing spot -but---that cove we went to at coral has a rock ledge in the next/west parking lot..where folks can climb out and cast down into that area where you and i got those last minute cabby's that day---also as you drive west more -red can/pt pinos you can find some rocky coves to try and cast a chunk of squid near those kelp piles there---but if its smashing that day--its no fun...also there are two turn out areas heading east from where we said good bye--toward cannery row..both of those have walls that folks back their pick ups to and tail gate fish---you might get lucky and be able to get gopher or blues blacks--cabby if your real lucky..same deal..if there is a big shore swell then it sucks....google coast guard jetty or san carlos beach--there is a jetty there and guys fish along that and some times get decent fish --mostly  perch and small rock fish--pretty tough to fish it and not snap a lot of gear imo

south of yankee pt on highway 1 where you pulled over and radioed us from the road that day--there are some trails..but it can be slippery and poison oak along the paths --if he's fragile--not the best trials imo

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

Thanks Craig, I've seen those walls you are taking about. I did pulled over there on my way back and talked to a few fisherman. it's literally park and fish. it's a possibility with a heavy set up.  that would be an option. another option would be the rock ledge. Yankee point might be off the list.

likely not hit up mendo area. yes he had been on charter boats and had a blast. he had to wear an ear patch. He wants to get away from that and fish from shore.

the coast guard jetty will put a fish or two in his bucket (maybe bring chairs) do a one hook and 2-4oz and cast just off the jetty--easy stuff--but 99% are small and tough to cast to...scuba diver classes train there too so its kind of screwy...the wharf #2 off del monte and jigging for maks is fun and will put some fish on his sabiki --some times non stop when the maks are in--which lately is most days--be aware there is still a warning about eating maks i believe out of monterey--

those walls in p.g-the guys come and sit and chill and spend the day snacking and watching the beautiful bay in lawn chairs...the only time they real in is to break the line and tie on a new hook  :smt005

but he wants to shore fish--will they still rent the boat to him if he stays on shore--that could work too---stand in the boat in S.c and cast to p.g/need at least a 9lb weight :smt003
