Any local SC / Monterey mates up for a BH trip this coming weekend (9/12 or 9/13), weather and surf permitting? Any advice for a possible first time Hollow trip outside of the general safety standards? I've read as many stories on this forum as I could find! Most seem to go south after launch?

It seems most of the reports are 2011 or older so if we are going to go 4+ years back let's go back to when attitudes were positive about bean!

I take it this doesn't happen anymore in terms of the group effort to BH?

The GWS are patrolling the general area.  If you go don't dangle your feet.  This came from topp.org

Awesome info and thanks for sharing! Topp.org just went into the favorites!!! If I'm interpreting the graph right, there have been 8 sharks picked up by the Nuevo buoy this month? I couldn't find it on the sit but do you know how far a shark can be away from the buoy before its picked up? 8 sharks in a 2 mile radius is different than in a 20+ mile radius. Out of almost 40 tagged sharks, 8 doesn't seem that bad? I really like the graph on the home page that tracks the sharks!

As for what made me want to fish the BH area was strictly observation based. I moved to SC in March from Eureka. I travel often to Pacifica on hwy 1 and have been looking for the most isolated / least fished spots. I've wanted to fish there before I knew about BH or NCKA. This forum and the Internet in general have just helped me to narrow down the search a little for doable launch spots along the sc to Pacifica stretch.

It's definitely interesting to consider what brings the sharks to Nuevo. Id assume food? And their food eats fish? Get my drift. Eureka was very similar in that regard.

Yep, pinniped rookeries... up and down the Coast actually.  It's why we're the red triangle.  Ano Nuevo has one of the largest year round elephant seal populations on the mainland.  It's about that time of year that the juvenile seals will be out and about in the water... hence the increased landlord presence and the title, "Sharktober."

6 to 8 tagged sharks are showing in the area.  Makes ya wonder how many untagged are swimming around...

It's getting late in the season... maybe save BH for next year.  Just sayin...    :shark

Eureka was very similar in that regard.

Is it though?

Not a rhetorical question either.  Not at all familiar with Eureka.

While the subject always veers toward sharks when BH is discussed, BH can have a wicked shore break. Conditions have to be just right for safe launch and landing. Hobies add an extra degree of difficulty. Getting trashed in the surf can kill you too. Surf launch experience is a must
