If you want to catch fish on the ocean and be safe doing so, you first need to learn some basic skills including paddle strokes, self and assisted rescues. This could be the most important class you'll ever take! Learn how to launch and land your kayak safely, paddle efficiently, and how to sort yourself or a buddy out in the event of a capsize. Does the L2 means level 2? Is it a little bit more advanced than the beginner class? I took the beginning class in March. Can't say enough about how much I've walk away with. It is also a good time to try out a kayak that you always wanted to give it a shot. I did the class on a Jackson  Kracken.

Great, I will go ahead and sign up for the class. I think I will try doing the class on a Hobie revolution 13. I wanted to feel the seat for an all day thing.  I'm think it is actually cheaper to take the class, rather than renting the Hobie for a day.

I signed up to class about a week ago.  I have a couple questions about what I need to bring with me.  I only have my wetsuit, boots, and hats.  For those of you who have taken the class before; does the class actually doing any fishing?  Do they provide fishing gears?  I can't wait to learn from this class.  Any insight to class would be great help for me to prepare for the class.  I have my eyes set on the PA 14 now so I just need to learn the skill.  Thanks guys!

Herb, we took this class already. You're looking for the L3 class for open water. Then again, as you said, it's a cheaper way to get Hobie seat time while practicing the essentials.  It's a win-win regardless.

Hey Rider, speaking of which... is an L3 class on the horizon? Seems we have quite a few L2 graduates now.

Here's a link to the past February's class: http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=62023.0

There was no fishing when we took the class; too much other stuff to cover. Dunno if they changed the class to add fishing time.  Bring your immersion gear since ya might as well get used to your own stuff.  Maybe bring some windbreaker clothing (if you have it) to go over the wetsuit. Some folks got chilly when the wind picked up. You're gonna be wet most of the day.  If you have an old fishing pole you don't mind getting dunked, there's value in bringing it in that you'll see how a long leash and rod placement can be a hindrance to rescue.  Otherwise, just bring what ya got, a lunch, some water, and enjoy the class.

Hey Mark,   I thought the class we took was a level 1. I thought this is the next level for you and me.    Hopefully Ryder can clear it up.

Okay just got the word from Sean that this is the same class. They next class will be more focussed on surf zone launching and landing. It is not yet available but they are working on it. Sorry for the confusion.
