Looking for a reasonably priced Hobie Mirage Outfitter for my wife and me. Anyone have any tips/tricks/advice for finding one at a discounted price (e.g., previous year models or slightly used). We live in Monterey, CA but are willing to drive a few hours if necessary or order and have shipped if the place is reputable. Also, we have yet to try the Mirage peddle system and so we are interested in definitely trying one first; any place near Monterey that rents them or provides test before you buy with Hobies?

Thank you in advance <*((((><

Closest shop that sells Hobie is Kayak Connection, in Moss Landing & Santa Cruz. The owner, Dave, is also a member of NCKA. That's where I would begin my search--by calling the shop and asking if you can demo an Outfitter. (831) 479-1121 http://www.kayakconnection.com/
Hobie has a strict policy against discounting new yaks/gear, so your best bet (if you want a discount) is to look for older models (pre-2015) or demo models. I have never been on a Hobie tandem and not sure I ever want to...who gets to control the rudder?!  :smt005

2016's will be out next month so there might be some left over 2015's available for slight discounts. I'm pretty sure those tandems pop up on Craig's pretty often though. Divorce boats... :smt005

You should be able to get a minimum of 10% off any hobie kayak just through phone calls.  If you want that seat, you'll want a 2015 or newer.  Otherwise, there are a few demo models around here and there - Sunrise Mountain sports is selling a 2014 outfitter for $2400.  I believe Tahoe City kayaks will start their annual used kayak sale pretty soon - they sell their used Hobies for 30% off, but you can't pick it up until the end of their rental season.

Thanks everyone for the tips. We will start by talking to Dave at Kayak Connection and see what he has to offer. We have been using an older Wilderness 130T but have not been to happy with it; it works, but the built in seats are annoying and the hatches are super small.

Or $2400 for a new 2015 Outfitter?   :smt006

Appreciate the link to the blue one (looks like a great deal); however, we are looking for a yellow (papaya) one with the new seat style (2015 and newer apparently). CenCoast: I saw that earlier and when I called Kayak Connection they said it was a mistake and should be 3400.

I believe there are two rudder controls, one in the front and back
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it
