Now that I'm getting a Revo I'm wondering where all you revo guys have your FF mounted. My plan is to mount rack on sides or possibly just on right side to attach FF. Left side is side I use to enter/exit water when diving so I need at least that side clear. I would be worried if I mount rack on that side I will catch it on wetsuit and tear.

 Pictures of setups if possible

Thanks

Remember to mount it in a location best suited for YOU  I would suggest in an area that is easy to reach for marking waypoints, changing screens, etc...

I've got a 4 inch rail with backing plate mounted on the right side just forward of the map pocket.  I use a 1.5" ram ball/ mighty bolt in the rail, 3" heavy duty ram arm to the Elite 5 with the quick release 1.5" ram ball adapter.

I use the left side to get in too.
I use all sides to get out.   :smt044

I have mine with a RAM ball mount (in the left map pocket on my AI) with an arm that allows it to hang out to the left over my left tramp; Elite 7 HDI.  The RAM was the best thing I added to the setup which allows me to move it around & remove it when needed.

I have my FF mounted to a Ram ball that fits inside the sail mast. Because there isn't much deck space to begin with. And I don't want a bunch of crap hanging off the gunwales that could potentially hinder my ability to board/re-enter/handle big fish/make it difficult to paddle/cramp my style. But the sail mast is also a great location for me because I don't play with my FF while OTW. On an average 8-hour session in the ocean, I'll touch my FF 2 or 3 times...and that's just to mark fish/structure, which is super simple = push Enter twice.

I use the mast hole on my Outback too.  And like Pat, I dont really play with it much, but can mark a spot with my toe by hitting the enter key twice.  :smt003

On my 13' Revolution, I mount my fish finder on a gear track on the gunwale, right in front of the pocket.  I like to mount it close enough to my seat so I can see the screen and operate its controls easily.  If you mount your fish finder too far forward to reach the controls easily, you won't utilize the features of the fish finder fully.

On my 13' Trident, my fish finder is mounted in the covered pocket which is in front of the foot wells.  I don't like that location.  The screen is difficult for me to read, and I have to lunge forward and stretch in order to reach the fish finder's controls.

+1

Mainly for safety reasons (self rescue) and a clear space to paddle efficiently when need be.

++1 and its out the way when I go crabbing.  My Raymarine Dragonfly 7 has only 3 command buttons.

I have 4 Scotty flush mounts on the gunwale; 2 each side.
I'm a lefty reel kind of guy so the FF is on the right side. The left side is the business side of the kayak.
Even when diving, I get on and get......uh...self rescue......on the left side.
The flush mounts on the left side also serve as a DR attachment point and rod holder if need be.
I found the having the 2 fluch mounts give me limitless options.
Side note: I did this prior to any rial systems available.
I wouldn't want a rail on my self rescue side. I like to keep that as clean as possible; especially when getting on with a wetsuit.

I have rails on both gunwales and a ff on the right gunwale mounted with a ram mount.  I have paddled the kayak, and it doesn't get in the way too much.  It is a bit cumbersome sometimes, but I like to interact with electronics a lot when I am fishing.

I keep the left clear for self rescue unless I am trolling a flat lake. The rails alone don't catch when I have practice self rescue.

Just in case your next question is about Revo rod holders, just like Tote I use Scotty Flush mounts only, not Gear Tracs.   :smt002

I just put the rails on my outback last week and a ball adapter in the sail mast.  I like being able to move my FF around depending on if I want it close or want to just see the screen from a distance.  Both have their own pluses depending on how much you use it on a given day.  When on the right rail with 1.5" ball I was able to jump back in while diving but can easily move it to the front mast ball adapter before getting out to make it easier.

I also added rails behind the seat and already glad I did as I had a camera mount and dive flag that needed to be adjusted on the rail when I take the cart wheels with me.  Will also be nice to move around other gear as needed and the rails are all recessed so it will not get in the way with my roof rack if I carry it upside down.
