Hi folks- I recently started kayak fishing and am hooked!  Going back to Ocean Cove at the end of the month but would like to get a better rod.  I am using a cheap ten foot long spinning reel combo that I had in the garage but it's really hard to manage on the water when the line wraps around the tip.  It's time to get a real setup but I have already spent so much on this new hobby that my wife is starting to hate me.  Anyone have a good deal to throw my way?

I'd grab a 7' Ugly Stik  Tiger(59.99 new) or even cheaper used  and snag a Penn Levelwind reel off craigslist for $20 or so.

Bulletproof setup on the cheap.

Thanks for the advice- that sounds reasonable for the rod.  For the reel- does this look like it would fit the bill?

I'd pay about $20-25 for that reel. That would work for what you're looking to do.

I prefer the Penn 309 Levelwind series.

A real workhorse and easy to maintain. Wally world has them for 44.99 right now;

Which ugly stik are you talking about? Medium? Heavy? Spin? Casting to go with spinning reel.

It depends on what model ugly stik.the tiger's are a little beefier,the tiger lites use a smaller diameter blank.then there's the inshore,boat series and so on.also we need to know the size of the reel your using,line size and so on.for a spinning I'd go 6-6 1/2 to 7 in the medium to medium lite category,all depends on which stik your gonna get
You don't want a casting rod for a spinning reel the guides are too small
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it
