As a Tahoe local I'd like to re-iterate the inherent danger on Tahoe when the wind is up. The forecast is gusts to 40. Watch the water, dont get broadside to a stiff gust. The water is 38 degrees below the surface. If you go in the water for more than 15 mins without pfd & vhf to notify people, you will die. If you are a newbie play it safe, have a wingman, & if you are uncomfortable take a break. That being said, im looking fwd to sat. Should be a blast

Sorry to make light of how serious it can get there. Listen to Tony, he knows the lake.

It sucks to be DQ  but anyone who plans on fishing the freshkats.com events need to use these as prime examples of what not to do. I definitely don't wanna DQ anyone. You should be giving yourself plenty of time (30mins) to get your score card filled out and double checking your photos. It ain't a bad day when your DQ and still Win a Kayak Tho..Way to make up for it. See everyone At Tahoe.

It did suk that we had to DQ a couple folks because they didn't fill out they're point sheets correctly. Read through the rules, check your cameras resolution, delete your old fish photo's and take your time, good quality picts.

Sunrise is 6:25 am
Make sure to print out and bring your reg forms (signed and dated), review the rules and bring a points sheet.
Bring a pen and use your phones calculator feature.
With the wind it might take a bit longer to get into shore, plan accordingly.
Charge your VHF and your ff battery (you'll need it!).

Jude makes some great points. Intellicast has a pretty good forecasting team, and when fronts come through (in this case a cold front) they're fairly predictable. The good news is, it looks like it should remain fairly reasonable early in the morning. However, due to the topography of the basin, it is also very susceptible to strong gusts. I've seen it go from steady 10-15 kts on the lake, which is manageable, to localized 30+ kt gusts without warning.

Bottom line: Let's all be smart and it sounds like it's going to be a great day on the water. Very excited about meeting everyone and participating in my first event!

Alright I'm packed and ready to go. I decided to pack my wetsuit just in case! With that wind it'll be just like fishing the ocean where I am lol. I'm working a half day tomorrow then heading up.

I hope to arrive around 4. I've never fished Tahoe before so I'm hoping to scout the launch before the event so I'm not totally lost first thing in the morning!

I barely know how to use my downrigger, and my first kayak salmon came from berryessa last week. I figure that I'm staying at the holiday inn so that should make me an instant expert of everything (at least if you believe the commercials)

I'm excited to meet everyone and hopefully learn a lot!

Potluck and raffle will be about an hour after the 1:00pm weigh-in, in the picnic area directly adjacent from the bathrooms. Please don't forget to Donate something to the potluck. Family and friends are welcome.

An hour after weigh-in ? , won't be enough time to BBQ ? just saying....

T.L. Tim

No worries tim, I'm not that secure on the time..just posting it so you have an idea...see u there bro

Cool Ricci, from the sounds of it we will be blown off the lake by noon anyways...
Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

2. How does the raffle work? Included in reg price? Do we buy tickets? And when?

Thx
