Line on reels inside of carry on?

 I've always checked my reels when traveling and lock them in the case. Traveling light out of the country this time,

  Can you have a fishing reel in your carry on with line on it?

Awesome!!! Hate to say good bye to a $100 of braid, my spinning st criox fits inside the carry on, my medium heavy 3 piece casting on the other hand is a caring case, but I think it will be fine, if not, someone gets a med-heavy bass pro casting rod & case and I take my Calcutta 400d to find a new home wherever I may roam,,,

I used to carry my big tuna reels on the plane with me going to Cabo.  Then one time coming back we had a stop in LAX first which we had to pass through customs and of course all the alarms went off when they ran it thru the X-ray machine.  After calling every security personnel over, they ask me to remove it from my backpack thinking it was some possible bomb.  I kind of laughed it off and being a smartass said "Hell there's enough 130 lb mono on that thing to tie up the whole plane."  At that point I figured it was just easier to check it in.
