3 of us went fishing in Carmel last Saturday.  My 2 buddies had full RF and Ling limits.  I had a  RF limit and 2 lings in possession.

As we were loading a DFW Game Warden drives by.  I had a feeling we were being watched because his timing was perfect.

Our conversation goes something like this:

He asked to see our licenses.  We complied.  Then he asks each of us our birthdays.  All of us answered correctly.

Then he asks us. Are you guys fishing with 2 rods?  We had 3 rods each.  I could tell he was setting us up to give the wrong answer.  My buddy tells him; No way. We only use one at a time.

Then he checks my catch.  I kept 8 Blue RF that day, an OLive and a Verm.  He asks me:  Do you know the bag limit on Blacks?  I said yes.  He counts my catch and didn't bother checking the species.

My buddy was next.  He comments; Thats a nice Brown RF.  My buddy corrects him its a Kelp RF not a Brown.

He asks my other buddy to dump his catch on his trucks tail gate.  In the process my buddy accidentally gets spined really bad and his finger starts bleeding.  He was all legit and goes on his way.

This is most creative Game Warden I've ever encountered.  Know the regulations when you go out.

At least your answer to his question of 'Do you know the bag limit on blacks' wasn't "Do YOU?"  :smt002

"Did you see any whales?"
"Oh yeah, they're everywhere"
"How close did you get to them?"
"Talk to my lawyer."

2 weekends ago I met 2 kayakers fishing inside the Carmel Pinnacles SMR.  Both didn't have a FF and GPS.  They got cited and their catch was confiscated.

DOH!  My first time out there I was right on the border of it; didn't know otherwise.  They were cool & let me know that I was (virtually) on the line.  That was before I ever had a ff/gps.  Luckily they were in a good mood.  the otehr two guys I was fishing with had licenses, but left them in the truck so they advised them to paddle back in, get their licenses & continue fishing.

I'm quickly losing my respect for them--not saying there are not good ones but out of my 10 or so meetings it has only been 1-2 that were decent guys..I've gone from ragging on folks for ragging on the green jeans, and liking them--to not liking them and thinking they are kind of assholes.
I was friendly and chatty and giving them thumbs up for 2 years but slowly started to understand that they dont like me   :smt003 -they dont give a shit what their attitude conveys and they pretty much 'know' everything...and yet

if your in a boat/zodiac with 3 guys and big fucking motors --and i'm in a kayak- in deep- rough waters-big swells, and you dont know that you need to stay back  at first to begin the talking -well then -you either dont give a shit or are a dumb ass that cant learn on the job  :smt002
doing stupid shit like  :smt001
measuring a 25" ling
not knowing how to pass a fish from vessel to vessel
yelling at a deaf guy--while his buddies ten feet from you are explaining that he cant hear you-were smiling--
long eye to eye contact like a bar fight is about to go down--like 2 seconds of a quiet dead stare after I've answered the question correctly
I'm fishing in a kayak on the ocean with a license ,you've already checked this season twice- not making meth---get off me
I know  :smt003
maybe go over to mpla's and warn some more power boats and let them go..then come capsize me again...or just drive by with your shades -blank face staring like your too cool for school---probably ten encounters -with like one positive one -out of all of them and no violations ever--to get me from thumbs up --to thumbs down...my buddies pretty much hate em....they earned it imo

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

People aren’t supposed to look back. I’m certainly not going to do it anymore.”
