I'm thinking about getting a vacuum sealer for the occasional fish, espresso beans and marinating meat. Nothing too fancy. Does anyone have this one from Costco and do you recommend it?

I have the bigger version and it works great for occasional use.  Whatever you seal should have most moisture soaked up before sealing as the vacuum will suck the moisture out of the bag and sometimes the seal will not be tight or to wet to melt a good seal.

It's worthless for larger quantities or multiple items as it will over heat and the unit will not function until it cools off.

I bought the game unit that was supposedly better but the alternative is a commercial unit and they start at $500.  If we start raising our own meat and poultry then I will upgrade but it is working fine for the other stuff.  I also bought thicker bags on Amazon on 50' rolls which saves money in the long run.

I got the 4880 model from costco. Works great. Sealed two lings (filled) and  three rockcod (whole). Use it about once or twice a month. Been over a year now. So far so good.

I was looking at the costco one also for light duty use.  Never thought about a little pre freeze to keep the liquids in.

With the 4880, I did not have the moisture n seal issue. I rinse the fish and put it right in the bag to seal. I do see some moisture get sucked out and into the drip tray but so far seal is perfect.

I try to partially freeze as well but after recent GS9 trip.... I just sealed mostly dry patted filets..
Moisture entered The seal and when I defrosted fish last week, seal completely failed.
I have the newest Costco vacuum sealer..l believe it was operator error.

I just picked it up. Sealed 8 bags of espresso beans. Seemed to work flawlessly. Thanks for the input!

Good news.

As for the moisture.  By the time I get home and clean fish I don't feel like sealing it so I put the fillets in a zip lock with a few paper towels.  The next morning the towels are wet and it wicked most of the extra moisture from the fish.  I then seal it and there is a tighter seal and they seem to not get freezer burn.  Worth a try.  An extra 12 hours in the fridge doesn't hurt the fish or allow it time to smell.
