Career change

All,

I have been continually frustrated with the biotech market, and so I have decided to make a change.  I have enrolled in the Master Brewer program at UC Davis, luckily braving the deepest applicant waters the program has seen according to the director.  I will be making my attempt to go pro in brewing.

Not that anyone cares, but this is going to have several impacts upon the NCKA community. 

First and foremost, I am going to have to relinquish the responsibility for the MFF series.  I don't want this series to fade out, so I beseech the members here to get someone to do it.  I've had issues with the obtaining of the trophy, but rest assured it is on the to do list before I move.

I guess that is actually the only thing that really matters.

I will keep up with the board, and when I get settled in Davis be back in the mix fully.

I hope another impact is that we'll have to drink a lot more of your brews.  After all, you'll need a lot more "critical review" to hone your already advance beer brewing capabilities.  Good luck Mol!!!

Congratulations!   Keep us posted on your progress.  I've heard it's a great place to learn how to become a master brewer.

is yeast an animal? in that case isn't that still bio-tech?

so how long is the program?

davis is west of sacramento 25 miles or so?

I guess that is very much still nor-cal!

The program is just a little over 5 months.

I'm sure you'll do well.  I spent a year in Wickson Hall at UC Davis (where the enology department is).  From what I've heard talking to students there, a lot of people don't realize how much biochem and microbio are involved with wine making.  I don't know much about the master brewer program, but I'm guessing the same is true.  That said, I'm sure your PhD and years of biotech should come in handy (assuming remedial biochem doesn't bore you first).

Dang freekin' diddle!!  That is a big positive.  The other big positive is that, while expensive, the Davis program is known world wide as the best in class.  Its like going to Harvard law, only you get to make beer!

I'm very excited about it.

If you have any spare time, you're welcome to come on up and visit some weekend. Private 230 acre lake. Almost 100% C&R Bass fishing ethic by the residents. Bass supposedly up to 10 lbs, though the largest I've personally caught would have gone just over 5 lbs using length and girth. The Crappie aren't Clear Lake sized, but close. 1 hr from Davis. 3 year old Foghorn in the fridge

As to your studies, I'm sure you'll do well.

 Now you will be closer to Clear lake (2 hours). Let me know when you and the brews will be heading over for a LMB fix.
